More Snow

Well, it started to snow Friday around noon and did not quit until 8 p.m..
We ended up with 7 - 10 inches of fluff. Wow, what a winter.
Gordy worked most of the day yesterday to get the ice road cleaned up, good
thing that there was not much wind with the snow.
The guys that crappie fished yesterday did just fine, and the size average was very nice.
I also was told of some good catches of trout the last few days too. Only one group of
four walleye fishermen as of late. They started at 9 a.m. and had the limit by 1 p.m..
We are supposed to have a cooler and clear week of weather. It should be a great week
to fish.

Fishing Report and Slush Conditions

Well, the fishing is still good. The trout are still doing it and the crappies have picked up.
Everyone I have talked to are getting around just fine with snow machines. I have had
guys in all week that have been on both main lakes and into several of the back lakes.
They had made it out and back in without any problems. Oh yah, and caught plenty of
fish!
Come on up and get it done!

Travel Light

Plan on traveling as light as possible while running your snow machine on the lakes. The guys pulling big sleighs and the big portables are starting to have some problems with the slush.
The trout are still doing it, hair jigs with tinsel, tubes and spoons are still the ticket to good catches.
The guys willing to drill a few extra holes or move spots are still the ones getting the limits of crappies.
The walleyes and jumbo perch are featured entertainment will searching for the crappies. Some guys are
doing better on a small jig tipped with a small minnow and others are using a finness tactic. All in all, you
have to work at the crappies a bit.
Our winter weather has now moderated so traveling and moving around on the lake is much more
comfortable and easier to do.
We still have a few Custom Thorne Ice rods left. Come get one!
Remember, many of the camp owners are doing sport shows now. Stop by a show and say hi.

Much Warmer Today

The weather is much more seasonable today. It will be a lot more comfortable to be out on the ice
chasing those fish this week. We clouded over and the temps. climbed too.
Very few fishing reports the last couple of days with the wicked cold we had. Those that did brave the cold seemed to do o.k. though.
We will probably get another dusting of snow along with the warmer temps..
Hair jigs, tubes and medium to smaller spoons have been the ticket to the trout.
Small tear-drops and micro spoons tipped with a minnow or minnow head have been working best for the crappies and perch. Many are now using a dropper hook on a small spoon for the perch.

Moderate Weather Coming

We had a heat wave come through last night, it's only -31 this a.m.. I only had a few brave (or crazy) fishermen head out fishing yesterday. They were not out long, but did catch a few lakers on Crow.
We are supposed to be back into normal winter weather by monday and that will sure be nice! We
sure hope that you are also thinking about booking your summer fishing trips.
Lots of the resort owners are down in the states doing sport shows and looking forward to seeing you there. The others all have web sites and are only an e-mail or a phone call away. Get booked in early so you do not miss out on your favorite time to be here.
If you are thinking about coming to our area and do not know where to stay or whom to talk to, log onto the links on our web site and browse through, then contact the place or places that are of interest to you.
The fishing in our area in great. Come see for yourself.

Wow Is It Cold Out Today!

We are at -41 here this a.m., and it is supposed to be close to that the next couple of days. This should
take care of the slush problems we were starting to have. The fishing has been good still, just not very
comfortable for snow machine travel with the bitter cold.
I talked to a fellow yesterday that had done well on the crappies with his two young sons the day before out
on Sabaskong Bay.
The trout are still going fairly strong on all the area lakes too.
I have had no pike or walleye fishermen in the last couple of days, so I have no news on how they are biting.
Cindy and I both have to be gone on TUESDAY the 25th, so our store will be closed on that day.
With that said, stay warm and Fish, Fish, Fish

Fishing Report

I have talked to many fishermen over the last few days and the trout fishing has been very good.
There is a fair bit of slush, but very few reports of anyone getting stuck. With the cold weather, the
slush is already starting to freeze through in some places.
Gordy is keeping the ice road open, so truck travel on Sabaskong out to the crappie holes is good.
The crappies are a little tough, but those that are willing to work at it are doing o.k..
Still getting reports of good catches of jumbo perch with some walleyes mixed in.
I had not had any pike fishermen through as of late, but the last group I had through did well.
The weather is supposed to warm some as we get closer to the weekend and that will make your outting
much more enjoyable.
Come On, Get Out There And Get Fishing!

Trout Are Snappin'

All the trout fishing reports I have had have been very good. Smaller hair jigs and spoons seem to be the ticket. They are still hitting tubes, but a slower presentation is needed while jigging them right now.
The lakes are a little rough and there is some fair sized slush pocket is the bays and some of the narrow areas.
It is supposed to be a bit cooler the next few days, so that should help heal up some of the slush.
The crappies were more active in a couple of the crappie holes yesterday. They are still very close to the bottom and hard to locate by just using your electronics. You have to drop a jig down to bring them up to where they will bite (about 2 ft. off the bottom).
They are still picking up some walleyes right along with the crappies, but other than that I have not had any reports of anyone fishing for walleyes the last couple of days.
I had a group in yesterday that had edged into the mouth of a deep bay and pounded the jumbo perch in 26 ft. of water.

More Information Needed

Quick update. Trout are still biting. The crappies have been a bit fussy, but drill a few extra hole
and move spots if need be and you will do o.k..
I ate fresh walleye for supper, how about you?
Did you ever hear the saying, YOU WON'T KNOW UNLESS YOU GO!
Yes, this is hint directed at you to go fishing.
With the weather we have had this week, I thought I would have seen everyone going
ice fishing. It has been a very nice week and the fishing has been good.
If you have any information on how the fishing is in Northwestern Ontario, please comment.
Have a great day and FISH, FISH, FISH!!!!

Good Fishing

I have had some better fishing reports the last couple of days about Whitetfish Bay.
White, glow and the "bloody nose" tubes seem to be the best. Northland's Buck-Shot
and Macho Minnows are working well too.
Crow, Rowan, Dogpaw and Caviar are still producing lots of fish.
The crappies are stuck on the bottom, but if you can finesse them up they will bite.
We had a damp cold day yesterday with a fairly stiff north wind, but it is supposed
to be better weather for the next several days.
I have only had a few walleye fishermen through, they have been catching lots of 15"-18"
fish. The evening bite for the walleyes has been the best.
I have also been getting reports of some good catches of JUMBO perch. Mmmmmm
There is some slush out there, so I would advise a "drive by" before stopping at a spot
to fish if your on a snowmobile.
We still have a few Custom Made Thorne Bros. Ice Rods left. Get one before they are gone!
Go Fish, Fish, Fish!!!

THE ICE ROAD IS NOW OPEN !

Good news, I just got a call from Gordy and he has the ice road open!!!!
He has plowed out to Cyclon point and all the crappie spots to there. The
road is not very wide yet, but you can bet that he will be working on improving
it every day now.
The trout reports I had had today were good. Lots of nice eating sized trout being
caught on Crow, Whitefish Bay, Rowan and several of the other back lakes.
Dogpaw and Caviar have been producing good numbers of nice fish too.
We just got in a fresh load of some very nice minnows. We have lots of trout tubes
in glow, white and the "bloody Nose". Jason has us well stocked with all the best
jig heads for the tubes too.

Jan. 5th Fishing/Travel Update

We just had a fellow in that had fished Crow for lake trout and Sabaskong bay for crappies.
He had limited out on trout in less than 20 minutes, lost one and had a couple of other bites.
He said that there was a fair bit of slush on Crow, but nothing you should be getting stuck in.
He had to work a little harder for his crappies over on Sab.. He got his fish, but had to move
around a bit and drill a few extra holes.
Gordy is just about done with the ice road. He has had some mechanical issues with his plow
truck but is planning on having the road open by the weekend.
We had another skiff of snow last night. The cloud cover that brought it in also raised the temps
to a much more comfortable level for fishing.
Good Fishing!!!!!!

Tuesday January 4th

It's starting to warm up, and is supposed to keep warming a bit all week long.
The trout fishing was a little slower yesterday with the high pressure and clear skies.
Lots of "chasers". Most caught enough fish anyway. A slower presentation was the
ticket.
With the blizzard we had over the weekend, Gordy was not able to get the ice road
opened out to the crappie holes yet. Since the storm, he has been packing the landing
and is planning of getting the road opened up in the next day or so.
The fishermen the took sleds out said the crappies fishing was good if you got on the
right hole. Seemingly there are fish everywhere, but you had to find a hole they would
bite in.
We will keep you posted on the travel conditions, ice road and fishing.
Feel free to drop us an e-mail or call if you have any questions.

THE TROUT OPENER

I have had a few groups through the store this a.m. that were out on Crow yesterday. Everyone I
have talked to so far had had a real good bite!!! The fish were running nice size too. Most of the
fish caught were in the 3 to 6 pound range and one guy I talked to had released a guestimated 16
pounder.
On the other hand, between the extra snow and wind is has made things a bit rough and there are
some pockets of slush starting to develope. No one I have talked to had hit enough slush to get
stuck in though. We are clear here today and a bit cooler, I had minus 7 on the thermometer at 6 a.m..
It sounded like tubes, jigging spoons and even some jerk shads were working yesterday. No reports
from Whitefish Bay or the back lakes yet, but will update as soon as I hear anything.
All in all, everything sounded good out on the ice!!!!

SNOW/WIND STORM!!!!!

Well, we got it last night!!!!! It started just after dark last evening and there is still a bit coming down.
At least 10 inches of that wonderful white stuff. I have yet to get any reports on what it did for lake
travel, but I would almost bet that there is some drifting out there.
Today is the lake trout opener and I would imagine it should be a good one. I have some good friends
of mine that will be out today and I will give you an update as soon as I talk to them.
Just got a phone call from a friend with a home on Crow, he said that there was some slush starting to
show up yesterday afternoon. Not enough to get stuck in though, but it is starting to get wet out there.
Maybe the snow will soak it up and it will freeze, supposed to get a bit cooler out.
I will keep you posted as I get the reports.
