Trucks, ATVs and Snow Machines

Truck travel is limited to the plowed road on Sabaskong bay.
There is not enough crust yet to hold the ATVs up.
Snow machines are your best way to travel right now.
We had quite a few walleye fishermen through the last few days and
they have been doing good. The crappies are still a little spotty, but
they seem to be picking up the closer to spring we get.
The lake trout have gone deeper than most are used to fishing.
Try to target the mud bottom areas that run 50 to 70 feet.
Drill lots of holes and surf through them. That is the secret right now
to getting the trout.
We are looking forward to that "last ice" fishing. It always seems to
be the best!

Nice Weather/Good Fishing

We had a couple of days of very nice weather and it really turned the fish on. There were many reports of limits of crappies and trout that came in yesterday. The "bite" window yesterday was between
9am and noon.
Cindy and I put in about 2 hrs. of fishing on Valentine's day during the afternoon and had a good bite.
We were fishing for walleyes and perch. Cindy caught one walleye about 4 lbs. (released), but the rest
of the walleyes were perfect for eating. The perch were endless, with lots in the 9 to 12 inch range. We
only kept enough for supper. I also caught a couple of northerns and one tulibee. It's always fun to catch
some of the alternative species too.
The temps are supposed to drop back down and be a little more seasonable for the next few day and we
might get a little more snow.
Now is the time to get out and do some ice fishing!

Great Lake Traveling

Well, after having a little warm weather last weekend and then having a very cold week
the lakes all have a very nice crust and the snow machine traveling is very good. Plenty of
crust to keep you on top and yet enough snow to lube the running gear.
Our fishing has been good too. It is getting into the time of the ice fishing season that we all
wait for. Good traveling and good fishing.
We are supposed to have good weather for the next week or so now.
See ya out there,
Phil

Better Lake Traveling

After having several days of warm weather and now several days of cold, the lake travel is much better.
We are supposed to be warming nicely into the weekend and it should be a great weekend to get out
and do some ice fishing.
The trout have gone a little bit deeper but are still biting just fine. The best bite has been happening in the
40 to 70 foot range the last few days. Our crappies are still a bit slow, but moist have been getting
enough to keep it interesting. I have not talked to many fishermen going out for walleyes, but the ones
I have talked to are catching plenty.
The woodchuck has predicted an early spring, so with less than normal ice thicknesses now is time to get
out and get in as much ice fishing as you possibly can as I think that once the ice starts to go, it will go
quick.
Get out there and enjoy!

Slush On The Lakes

There is a fair bit of slush on the lakes, but the fishermen are making it to their fishing spots.
I have suggested to them to make sure to do a "drive by" before stopping to fish. The bays
where the wind has blown the snow in are the worst for slush.
Those that have been going out have been having a good bite though.
We are having a couple of warm days now and that will help bring the slush to the surface.
We are hoping it will freeze through the first part of the upcoming week, as the temps are supposed
to dip down from monday to wed./thurs. and then warm into next weekend again.
We will keep you posted as the conditions change.
Have a great day!

Warmer Weather

Much warmer today, but a bit windy.
We are supposed to have nice winter weather until sunday.
Trout are still biting good. They are going on tinsel jigs, tubes and spoons.
The crappie fishing was much better this week. Most of the fishermen I talked to had caught limits of nice
fish.
We know that the warmer weather we are having will help make things much more comfortable to
be out on the ice. With only four weeks of winter left (says Mr. Groundhog), it is time to get out and
do some ice fishing!

It's Cold Out Today

It is -28 out today! No wind as of yet though so that will make it seem a little warmer out there. lol
Not many fishing reports yesterday. The ones I had were mixed, as some did o.k. and others said
that they had had a tough time of it. I did hear of one group doing well on the crappies and walleyes.
Other than that, things have been kind of quiet.
We are going to warm up starting thursday, so it should be a great weekend for you to get out and
do some ice fishing!!!!!!!!
For all you football fans, bring your radio out fishing with you, it's Super Bowl
