Heat Wave

We are in the middle of a heat wave here in Nestor Falls!!!! It's been in the high 80's to mid 90's for the last few days and is supposed to be the same for the next few days too.
On a good note, the fishing has never been much better. Lots of good fishing reports coming in.
The walleyes are on the mid-lake reefs. Pike are in the weeds and the bass are in a post spawn mode.
Lake trout fishing has been good, most are jigging in the 80 to 110 foot range.
The Fort Frances bass championship starts this coming week and I have been getting mixed reports about the fishing on Rainy lake. I am not sure many are giving me a straight scoop either. lol
We have been busy at the store, Cindy and our daughters are planning the last minute details for Randi and Matt's wedding. They are getting married on the 6th of next month here in N.F.. We are all starting to get excited about the event.
Remember, we do on-line licenses and bait orders and can answer any questions most might have.
Have a great day and hope to see you soon!

All Humped Up

The walleye fishing has been great!!! It is easy this time of the year, just find a mid-lake hump and start fishing. The guides are using minnows and the tourists are using leeches and crawlers. It does not seem to matter, all are doing good.
Lots of "slot" pike being caught and two days ago I seen a picture of a 46-1/2 incher!
We do not have many musky fisherman in this week, but those that are here are seeing some huge fish.
Like most of the time, it is hard to make those big ones grab on. I was told of a 51 inch fish that was caught on a #5 Mepps. They are still eating the smaller baits.
The lakers are biting good too. One day they bite better jigging and the next you need to troll.
A couple of the smaller lakes in the area are producing some massive crappies. I seen a limit the other
day where the smallest one was 1.3 lbs. It was the nicest batch of crappies I have seen in a few years.
The weather has been very warm, but we are getting enough rain to keep the blueberries plump. Some of
the berry patches on the hill tops are almost ready to be harvested.
We will be one of two stores to start the "pilot" program of automated licensing starting in September. Keep an eye on our site for updates on that.

Finally, A New Post!!!!

Well, I have finally made back to the computer to update my post. The weather is starting to moderate into
a normal summer pattern and the fish are doing the same. I am getting reports of lots of great catches.
Minnows had been the mainstay for the walleyes, but with the warmer weather they are coming on to
leeches and crawlers too. Some guys are pulling blades, but most are still using jigs to present the offering.
The pike are eating everything from minnow baits to crawfish cranks and spinnerbaits.
The smallies are now on the post-spawn and a suttle presentation is working best. Tubes, finesse worms,
leeches and crawlers are what is going. There are still lots of JUMBO perch being caught, mmmmm good!!!
Our trout are down now and both jigging and trolling tecniques are working. The vibe 80 and classic vibes, big bucktails and sonars for jigging. Williams, Northland and Cleos are all working for trolling.
We do have some insect problems after having all the rains and now the heat. I have been told that they are needed in this world, but I could seemingly live without them.
Please remember to scroll down on our message board to look at the up-dated pictures and if you have
a picture you would like posted on our site e-mail it to us.
Have fun and be safe.
